Mr. Tommy Tomblin

Middle Georgia Bowling Senate History

Having a stringent desire to encourage more African Americans to bowl, circa 1987, founders Mr. Robert Davis and Mrs. Virginia Kinchen set out to create a league of  established and recreational bowlers for family fun.  Being on the Sheriff's Department, Mr. Davis brought two of his colleagues to the game, Mr. Clarence Ford and Mr. Clarence Dodson.  After much footwork, the new handicapped league was formed and named New Kids In the Alley.  Mr. Davis was the first president and served two years. Mr. Ford became our second.

Always striving to develop the league, the officers continually endeavored to improve our status  within the community and bring awareness of sportsmanship to the game.  Sometime later, Mr. Tommy Tomblin joined New Kids and became league president .

By this time, New Kids had set up a traveling league for tournaments.  The league traveled all over the eastern and southern  region by cars and chartered buses.  Yes, New Kids loved to bowl...anywhere!

While  participating in a Turtle's Tournament in Augusta, Ga.  Mr. Tomblin noticed his sisters, brothers and other bowlers were wearing a TNBA shirt.  Being curious, he inquired about the organization which lead him to Tom Wade, Atlanta TNBA Senate, who provided him with the materials and information needed to get the senate started.

After taking care of all the necessary legalities, on March 18, 1992, Ms. Lenore Stewart, Tampa, Fla., Director of TNBA Southern Regional District, gave us our charter.

New kids members were the first to join and off we went, telling others about our new Senate. Signing bowlers to be a part, which was well received with approximately 60 members to start.  TNBA Middle Georgia Bowling Senate (MGBS) continued to grow through New kids and you might say it was the establishing league for the sanctioning of TNBA MGBS.

Through the years Middle Georgia Bowling Senate has sanctioned approximately sixteen leagues throughout the state from Atlanta, far South as Valdosta, East as Dublin and West as Columbus. Currently we are 162 members strong!

The first official officers of TNBA-Middle Georgia Senate were:

Tommy Tomblin-President,  Vice Presidents: Minervia Hall & Walter Robinson, Secretary-Virginia Kinchen (presently serves as Secretary), Asst. Sec.-Robert Sneed, Treasurer-Hollis Durham, Asst. Trea.-Claudette Heineck, Sgt-At-Arms Kenneth Alexis and Asst. Arms Dorothy Johnson Diaz.

Mr. Tomblin served as president of the Senate & New Kids for over 22 years with grace and humility.  MCBS is well known because of his dedication.  He was recognized by his peers and was inducted to the USBC local Hall of Fame. He also served as Mid GA USBC Association Director from October 1992-2002 circa.  In 2014,  he was honored as the first inductee into the Middle Georgia Bowling Senate Hall of Fame.
